Prevention

The best way to prepare for a disaster is to avoid the disaster. Therefore, we look for any potential problems we can find and correct them.

Some items that we look for include:

ü       Maintain good general housekeeping: Kansys keeps areas clean and free of obstructions and fire hazards. We remove any stored paper from common areas and store in restricted areas. We have a “clean desk policy”. We believe that removing loose paper from desk tops to files at the end of the work day can reduce losses due to fire. This also helps to protect those documents from sprinkler discharge and other incidents. We look for, and eliminate, any obviously overloaded electrical circuits. Kansys educates our staff regarding the problems that overloaded circuits and personal appliances can cause.

ü       Kansys observes physical security procedures: in our facility, and encourage increased security when appropriate.  Our building is open to the public, but only one entrance is available and visitors must check in with a receptionist to gain further access to our facilities. “Tailgating” is not allowed and does not occur.

ü       Kansys observes information security procedures: regarding computers in our facility, and we encourage increased security when appropriate. Our staff does not have their passwords visible in their work areas.  Laptop computers are secured at the end of the workday. Our staff does not leave their computers logged on to the network when they are away from their desks for extended periods such as lunch.

ü        Kansys Infrastructure measures: Kansys’ data center is built within a concrete bunker with steel rebar fully incased in the walls and roof.  The UPS is an APC InfraSturXure for power distribution and battery backup.  A Cummins diesel generator is present for outages lasting more than 5 minutes.  Cooling comes from an APC InRow and 2 10 ton A/C rooftop unit.  The SAN is XioTech with RAID 10.
