TAXI Saves Millions
Usage Event Warehouse identifies Millions of dollars for RBOC/CLEC while providing ongoing support across company functions.
Company Profile
This ex-Verizon RBOC/CLEC property is the state's leading telecommunications provider offering a wide spectrum of products and services, which include local and long distance services, high speed internet, wireless service, print directory and Internet directory services.
Situation
As the company deployed its new customer service and business support systems, there were several usage related challenges associated with the large scale effort:
- There was no function and/or process that could reconcile usage events to the billing system data.
- The fraud system was not ready for the go-live date.
- The network department was not provided any network topology map for the conversion process.
- Personnel familiar with the legacy network/usage event environment were not available to provide subject matter expertise.
- As the new customer support and business supports system went live, conversion related usage errors were commonplace.
Solution
Kansys deployed its TAXI (Total AXcess Information) Call Event Warehouse solution to receive, store and analyze over 200 million network events per month from 39 switches. The solution was deployed in four business days. TAXI was subsequently customized to provide reports that provide ongoing support for multiple departments as well as numerous audit efforts.
Results
- Identified $3.6 M in Access Back billing errors
- Identified $529K/Mo of LD MIU via Billing System to LD carrier provided call data
- Identified $2.3M/yr of Reciprocal Compensation over billing from an inter-carrier
- Providing ongoing support services
- TAXI is being used to generate Inter-carrier Recip Compensation Invoices
- Used to compare SS7 and AMA records to identify over $360K/yr of "phantom" traffic
- Data used to support PUC filings
- Data used to determine need for dedicated international trunk
Summary: The TAXI solution team has identified a minimum economic impact of $10.2million in the first 24 months. More importantly, the solution provides a mechanism to conduct usage analytics that identify billing/translation/network/mediation changes and errors without impacting the production environment.
